Local educators appointed to NYS Master Teacher Program

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Governor Kathy Hochul announced that 147 educators across New York have recently been selected for the state's Master Teacher Program. Additionally, 25 school counselors were announced as part of the inaugural Master Counselor Program. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! The programs consist of a network of over 1,700 public-school teachers and counselors that are dedicated and passionate about empowering the next generation through education. Throughout a four-year participation in the program, Master Teachers will receive an annual $15,000 stipend, engage in peer mentoring and partake in professional development opportunities. The program appointees were commemorated at regional SUNY campuses. The actors strike might soon be over.SAG-AFTRA and motion picture and television studios reached an agreement on the use of artificial intelligence, Deadline reported Tuesday afternoon."We are very close," one SAG-AFTRA source told Deadline. "Not done yet, but very close with strong protection language in place."The use of AI to recreate actors' likenesses has long been a sticking point in the discussions, as has revenue sharing.A potential deal on those tough issues could be hammered out Tuesday.In the meantime, pickets continued, but if Deadline is correct, they may be among the last of the 117-day strike.

Two Southern California men face decades or even life in federal prison for allegedly supplying fentanyl-laced pills and methamphetamine for online sales.Omar Navia, 38, of South Los Angeles, and Adan Ruiz, 27, of Garden Grove, are accused of providing "counterfeit M30 oxycodone pills containing fentanyl and other narcotics" for sale on darknet, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.They were indicted last month and arrested on Thursday. Both have pleaded not guilty to charges of "conspiracy to distribute and to possess with the intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine," the DOJ said. Ruiz faces an additional charge of distribution of fentanyl.According to prosecutors, Navia and Ruiz collaborated with two people who've already admitted guilt: Rajiv Srinivasan, 38, of Houston, and Michael Ta, 25, of Westminster, who were indicted last year by a federal grand jury on related charges.
