Patrols increase during distracted driving campaign COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The governor's office is launching a new, statewide initiative to educate New Yorkers about the dangers of distracted driving. It's part of the national "U Drive. U Text. U Pay." campaign.Law enforcement throughout the state will be increasing patrols during the week. To help educate drivers about the dangers of texting while behind the wheel, the governor's Traffic Safety Committee invited NEWS10 onto a closed track for a closer look at how distracted driving can impair focus. CDPHP to offer coverage for doula services ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A local health insurer is breaking barriers by becoming the first in the region to offer doula coverage for pregnant women. CDPHP has expanded its coverage to include up to $1,500 for doula support. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! The move follows a March rally at the Capitol to add this coverage to Medicaid. There are multiple states that currently require Medicaid to reimburse for doula services, including New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, and Rhode Island.

Judge sentences 72-year-old Oakland man to federal prison for cooking crack OAKLAND — Despite a defense argument that he has extensive medial issues, a 72-year-old man was sentenced to two years in federal prison for his role in a so-called “open air drug market” in East Oakland.George Moore Jr. must report to the Bureau of Prisons to serve his two-year prison term by May 5, according to an order signed by U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers. Moore pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess cocaine base for distribution and being a felon in possession of a Mossberg shotgun, both federal offenses. and the sentence was handed down in late February.The defense argued for a 366-day prison term, and listed 19 medical conditions that Moore suffers from, including heart disease, as well as 17 different medications he needs. Man arrested for driving drunk with kids, girlfriend in truck (KRON) -- A man was arrested for driving drunk in the North Bay city of Cotati on Saturday, police said. The man is accused of driving with a .21 blood alcohol content while his girlfriend and two children were in his truck. The Cotati Police Department responded to Wilford Lane at 11:20 p.m. for a reported battery. The reporting party said that the suspect was intoxicated and punched a family member. According to CPD, the suspect then tried to take two small children, who were the kids of his girlfriend, and drive away with them.
