Kiszla: Nuggets’ championship ring shines with the love of a 55-year quest by a father and son Every championship ring tells a story, and this one was a 55-year quest by a father who never got to the top of the NBA heap until his son took him there. While Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray flashed their shiny, new rings during a banner raising ceremony on Tuesday that nearly blew the roof off Ball Arena, maybe the coolest story of the night was told in the quiet tribute paid by Nuggets assistant coach David Adelman to his father.“When I got the ring, I immediately thought of how I won it for my entire family,” Adelman told me. “My Dad was a player, an assistant and a head coach in the NBA. He had a Hall of Fame career. But he never won a ring.”His first gaze at the dazzling jewels in Denver’s ring so rocked Adelman’s world that a wave of emotion carried him all the way back to 1990.Back then he was living every basketball-loving kid’s dream — a 9-year-old ball boy for the Portland Trail Blazers, doing chores in the visitors locker room, while walking in the shadow of Isiah Th...

Sharks blasted by Lightning: Here’s what might have been the most concerning part The San Jose Sharks game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night provided a clear snapshot as to where each franchise is at right now in terms of their expectations for this season. The Lightning have their sights set on advancing to the Stanley Cup Final for the fourth time in five years. The Sharks are in full rebuild mode, hoping they can be competitive again within the next two or three seasons. That stark contrast was on full display at Amalie Arena, as the Sharks were completely outclassed in a 6-0 loss to the Lightning, extending San Jose’s record losing streak to start a season to seven games. The Sharks allowed three goals in a lopsided first period and two more in the first 7:29 of the second before starting goalie Mackenzie Blackwood was mercifully pulled by coach David Quinn. Buster Posey defends Giants owner Greg Johnson after ‘break even’ comments SAN FRANCISCO — Buster Posey, despite his status as part-owner, board member and newly minted local resident, wasn’t on hand Wednesday morning as the Giants introduced their new manager, Bob Melvin. He tuned in remotely, which meant he didn’t miss his partner in the C-suite, club chairman Greg Johnson, briefly interrupt the fanfare with a dose of reality and a splash of cold water. In between pledges to return to the postseason and promises to revamp the roster this offseason, Johnson, the son of majority owner Charles Johnson, was asked about money. The club hasn’t come close to returning to Bobby Evans-era spending levels since they handed the reins to Farhan Zaidi five years ago. Would they consider broaching the luxury tax threshold? Maybe for one year, maybe for the right player, Johnson said.“But,” he said, “we also represent a group that hopefully our goal is to somewhat break even, which is somewhat of a challenge in this business.”Jo...
