Arvada K-8 families to weigh in on consolidation proposal

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Thursday evening, Arvada K-8 families will be able to weigh in on a district proposal to consolidate their school. Jefferson County Public Schools is weighing the possibility of closing Arvada K-8 School and Coal Creek Canyon K-8 School in Golden due to declining enrollment district-wide.  Officials said the two schools are the smallest in the district, and describe the two buildings as "urgently unsustainable." 2 more Jeffco schools could close by next school year If approved, the measure would be part of the second phase of the district's "Thriving Schools" initiative. The two closures could impact 524 students and 97 staff members. In 2022, the school board voted to close 16 elementary schools due to low enrollment and decided to close Moore Middle School in June.Arvada K-8 parents can attend the meeting at the school library from 6:30-8 p.m.The board will ultimately vote on the proposal on Oct. 12.

Nevaeh McNeil is described as being approximately 5 feet, 3 inches tall, with a weight of approximately 160 pounds. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a green shirt and pants and carrying a black book bag.Authorities are concerned for Nevaeh’s well-being and are making every effort to ensure her safe return. Troubled Brussels train station to get its own police station amid drugs boom

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo wants a police station built at Brussels’ Midi station, he announced Thursday, as part of an action plan to tackle a surging drug problem. “A police station will be built at the Brussels Midi train station. G7 countries commit to AI code of conduct

Officials from the G7 group of leading democratic countries agreed Thursday to create an international code of conduct for artificial intelligence as politicians from Brussels to Washington seek greater control over this emerging technology.As part of the voluntary guidelines, policymakers said countries would work together on specific principles that would oversee the likes of generative AI and other advanced forms of the technology. This attempt at creating a unified, but nonbinding, international rulebook would then be presented to G7 leaders as early as November.The code of conduct is expected to include commitments from companies to take steps to stop potential societal harm created by their AI systems; to invest in tough cybersecurity controls over how the technology is developed; and to create risk management systems to curb the potential misuse of the technology. Car manufacturers are collecting troves of data on drivers and passengers — some even tracking drivers’ sexual activity — according to a new report. In a review of 25 car brands and 15 car companies published by Mozilla Foundation on Wednesday, researchers found that Japanese car manufacturer Nissan said it could sell information about drivers and passengers’ sexual activity, intelligence and health diagnosis to data brokers, law enforcement agencies and other companies.
