Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim says he would be excited to see a “blown up,” post-apocalyptic version of city hall after announcing that the hit HBO TV series “The Last of Us” will film Season 2 in “Hollywood North,” moving from Alberta.The filming will provide Vancouver with more “swagger,” said Sim, adding the series has been one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows this year.It will also provide hundreds of jobs, career opportunities and significant contributions to the city’s economy, he told a news conference on Friday.Sim said he and Vancouver film commissioner Geoff Teoli were in Los Angeles early in March to meet with senior film and television executives and share the message that Vancouver is “open for business,” while asking what steps they could take to make it easier for productions to film in the city.He said executives for “The Last of Us” were still deciding where to film the next se...

Judge pauses horse racing anti-doping rules for 30 days

Horse racing’s new anti-doping program was dealt a blow Friday when a judge in Texas ordered the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority to stop enforcing its rules involving medications and illegal drugs until May 1.Judge James Wesley Hendrix of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas issued a 30-day injunction in response to a request for an emergency injunction by the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association and the state of Texas. BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — First responders were called to the Apollo Theater on Friday after reports of a roof collapse as a powerful storm and high winds swept through the area. The heavy metal band Morbid Angel was scheduled to perform. Albany man sentenced to prison for 2019 murder

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man was sentenced in Albany County Court on Friday for a 2019 fatal shooting. Quintin Lacy, 33, was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Police in St. Petersburg, Florida, say a missing child was found in an alligator's mouth and his father has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.During a news conference on Friday, Chief Anthony Holloway said officers were investigating the area of Del Homes Park when they spotted an alligator with an object in its mouth. The chief said officers fired one round at the alligator and it dropped the object.Officers were then able to retrieve Taylen's body intact, Holloway said.
