Austin ER doctor says 95% of traumatic scooter injuries involve alcohol

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Amid increases in emergency room visits from riders using e-bikes and scooters while intoxicated, Ascension Seton is urging people to find other ways to get home if they have been drinking alcohol. Dr. Jayson Aydelotte, trauma medical director at Dell Seton Medical Center, said that as the number of scooters and e-bikes have increased around Austin, so have the number of riders who have injured themselves while using them. One common characteristic of people who end up in the hospital after riding a scooter or e-bike is alcohol, Aydelotte said.“Since the scooters have come around, and the bikes too, if you get in an accident bad enough to give you an injury [and] get admitted to the hospital, 95% of those people have been drinking too much,” Aydelotte said. E-bikes and scooters started appearing on Austin streets in 2018. Pioneering health-food restaurant Good Earth has closed its Roseville location after a more-than 40-year run.The restaurant posted news of the closure on social media. BENNINGTON, V.T. (NEWS10) — Former volunteer fireman Rob Weisberg who survived the September 11th attacks is hiking the Appalachian Trail to raise money for veterans. SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Crews were on scene evaluating damage and beginning repairs on McClellan Street Tuesday after a car fell into a sinkhole the day before. Member of St. Louis drug ring sentenced in 2017 murder

LOUIS - A member of a St. Louis drug ring appeared in federal court Tuesday and was sentenced for killing a rival in summer 2017.Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Michael "Beezy" Johnson, 30, pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to possess a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a drug conspiracy.Johnson admitted chasing down and fatally shooting Kevin Davis Jr. on June 30, 2017, in the 1900 block of Belt Avenue. Davis was 24.A bounty had been placed on Davis' head by Maurice Herbert Lee II, a known fentanyl and crystal meth dealer, who offered anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 for killing any rival gang members or drug dealers. On the day of Davis' murder, another member of the drug ring, Delvin Bost, called Lee to reconfirm that the bounty was still being offered.Bost later called Lee and informed him Davis had been killed. ST. LOUIS - Utility infielder Brendan Donovan is set to have season-ending surgery on Wednesday, per manager St. Louis Cardinals manager Oli Marmol. Donovan is set for a procedure on his right arm Wednesday in Texas. He will be placed on the injured list soon and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
